CWSC Phoenix 08-24 TornadosKings
Having qualified for the Junior league finals in Nottingham, Tornados Kings kicked off their day with a tough opening fixture against CWSC Phoenix, both teams knew that the outcome of this match would determine how high they could finish in the final standing ... so stakes were high.
TornadosKings came out of the gates strong, looking dangerous at the offensive end, whilst stopping Phoenix''s offence with tough defence. Signs were looking bright for TK going into halftime, but they knew the job was only half done with the score at 6-14 in favor of TK.
The 2nd half started and it was more of the same, from Tornados Kings with the momentum they gathered from the 1st half seem to be continuing into to the 2nd, it meant that there offensive pressure and disciplined defence was too much for Phoenix as TK saw the game out with a solid 8-24 win. This meant TK secured the 1st semi final spot, and now was looking at a top 4 finish.
The scores were:
Reece 8, Tom 8, Lewis 6 & Joe 2
Manchester Mavericks 30-18 Tornadoskings
Manchester Mavericks were next on the horizon for Tornados Kings in the first semi final of the day, so with a lot to play for, it was Game on!
The match started and in the early stages Tornados Kings looked a little nervous, this resulted in both their offence and defence being affected and Mavericks were soon to capitalise on that and started to build a lead 9-0 however as the half drew to an end TK grew into the game and was more composed at the offensive end whilst playing tougher defence TK closed the gap, but at the interval it was Mavericks with the lead 18-10
The 2nd half was much closer affair with both teams coming out strong and trading baskets however, although TK had a much improved half Manchester''s lead stayed intact as the game ended 30-18 to the Mavericks. TornadosKings were now heading for the bronze medal match.
The scorers were:
Tom 10, Recce 4, Joe 2 & Lewis 2
The final fixture of Tornados Kings junior league season saw them come up against a strong Jaguars side in the bronze medal match so both teams were determined to end on a high.
Jaguars started the game stronger, with TK struggling to convert there chances and although they were giving it there all, fatigue was beginning to show due to having no subs all day and with jaguars being able to rotate there line-up it enabled them to go into halftime with a 6-21 lead due to them being clinical at the offensive end.
Similar to the semi final Tornados Kings came out rejuvenated in the 2nd half with their shots were droping but unfortunately so were jaguars and although the half finished level Jaguars got the win 31-16
The scorers were:
Lewis 8, Recce 4 & Tom 4
TK just missed out on the medal in there debut season of junior league, however everyone connected with Tornados Kings can be proud of what they achieved having one of the smallest squads throughout the whole competition and finishing 4th in the country.
Thames Valley Kings joined with the Tornados who made their club debut in the Junior leagues this season for this competition.
The following match reports from Junior league is taken from the Tornado's website - Big shout out goes to Carl at Tornados for this Match report - In this tournament, Tornado's Carl is head coach of the Under 19's while the King's Jacqueline is head coach of the under 15's
TornadosKings U19 16- 12 Northern Ireland U19Each game is 2 10 minute halves in this league so you have to get off to a good start which both teams managed to do trading baskets throughout the 1st half, TornadosKings just managed to get their noses in front by 2 points and the end of the half leading 12-10. The second half was a very cagey affair with both teams struggling to find the accuracy they managed in the first half as baskets were hard to come by. But again it was TK edging the half 4-2 to see the game out and win their opening game 16-12
TK scorers were Reece 10, Tom 4 & Jo 2
TornadosKings U19 15 -23 Blackhawks U19
TornadosKings second game of the day was against Blackhawks. Unfortunately TK got off to a slow start as the baskets would not drop for them in the first half as the shots continued to find a way not to go in. Blackhawks had the lead at halftime 10-2. TK found their rhythm in the second half and with a couple of minutes left in the game pulled the game back to within 3 points but TK couldn't continue to close the gap as Blackhawks went on to win the game 23-15
TK scorers were Lewis 5, Reece 4, Tom 4 & Brad 2
TornadosKings U15 07 -24 Northern Ireland U15Unfortunately for TornadosKings under 15?s had to forfeit both their games due to lack of players but they played both games as friendlies to gain some vital experience for the future rounds ahead. It was Ireland who started the strongest and lead at halftime time 12- 2. TK performed much better in the second half with some great team work to close the gap in the second half, however Ireland proved too strong and went on to close the game out and secure the win.
TK scorers were Ryan 5 & Kieran 2
TornadosKings U15 21-0 Hornets U15The second friendly of the day was against Hampshire Hornets. TK with a much better performance raced out to a 12-0 lead in the first half and with that confidence controlled the whole game not letting Hornets back into the game, who themselves had no luck when it come to the ball dropping in the hoop but continued to fight but TK proved to strong in the end even hitting a three pointer towards the end of the second half.
TK scorers were Kieran 13, Ollie 4 & Liam 4
